The Uganda Insurers Association (UIA) has donated essential medical equipment to Bugembe Health Centre IV in Jinja City in a move aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving the wellbeing of communities in the region.
The donation, which was part of activities marking the 58th UIA Annual General Meeting held at Jinja Nile Resort, highlights the insurance industry's commitment to supporting public health initiatives and promoting social responsibility beyond its traditional role of providing risk management solutions.
The equipment is expected to enhance the health facility’s capacity to provide quality medical services to thousands of residents who depend on it for primary and emergency healthcare.
Speaking during the handover ceremony in Jinja on Friday, UIA Chairperson Ruth Namuli said the initiative reflects the association’s commitment to improving lives through strategic investments in community health, noting that healthy communities are critical to sustainable socio-economic development.
“Insurance is about protecting lives and livelihoods. Our responsibility extends beyond providing financial protection to supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life for the communities we serve. We believe that strengthening healthcare facilities contributes to healthier and more resilient communities,” Namuli said.
UIA Chief Executive Officer Jonan Kisakye said the association also donated 50 boda boda helmets and reflective jackets to riders as part of efforts to promote road safety and encourage responsible road use.
He said the initiative demonstrates the insurance industry's continued commitment to creating a positive impact in communities beyond its core business.
“Today we are showing the residents of Bugembe that as insurers, we consider them vital to our business. It is important that we support initiatives aimed at improving health facilities and boosting the services offered to the community,” Kisakye said.
Bugembe Health Centre IV serves a rapidly growing population in Jinja City and surrounding areas, providing services including maternal and child healthcare, outpatient treatment, emergency care, and disease prevention programmes.
The newly donated medical equipment is expected to improve efficiency in patient care, address existing service delivery challenges, and strengthen the facility’s ability to respond to the healthcare needs of the community.
Health officials at the facility welcomed the donation, describing it as timely support that will help bridge critical equipment gaps and improve patient outcomes.
“We are grateful for this generous contribution from the Uganda Insurers Association. The equipment will strengthen our service delivery and enable our health workers to provide better care to the people who rely on this facility every day,” a representative of Bugembe Health Centre IV said.
The initiative highlights the growing role of private sector organizations in complementing government efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and access to quality medical services.
